Landscapes and aliens

I was in a serious beading mood, so I grabbed Landscape #4 and covered it with beads. Then I added a ribbon edging but am most unhappy with that edging. It looks rough and less like a frame than I’d like. I always bead too close to the edge, meaning that I then cannot add a charming, multi-colored zig-zag or satin stitch to the edge.

Then, last night, I began stitching a post-card style rectangle which had been hand-dyed. I’d taken Micron pens and outlined the shapes the dyes had taken and – lo and behold—I found an alien with large sunglasses on, lurking in the design. Here she is – with much more stitching and beading needing to be done.

I may have one more landscape in my creative spirit before we move on to Lesson Two in the Postcard as Art class. Cheers!!

Bali design blocks become stamps

Several years ago, at a garage sale in my neighborhood, I was fortunate to be able to purchase four Bali design blocks from an interior designer who was moving. Here they are:

Aren’t they marvelous?? Today, I heated some blue foam blocks till they would accept the imprint and then I pressed the blocks down onto the blue foam. The result is two wonderful stamps.

Then, with regular, inexpensive acrylic paints, I stamped on two hand-dyed pieces of fabric. Clear stamp prints are less intriguing, artistically, than the echoed imprints as the paint diminishes on the stamp.

I have two more Bali design blocks to use to imprint this blue foam material. How grand is that??

Textured weaving is gorgeous

I would very much like to own a small loom that would fit on my kitchen table. with that loom I could create beautiful small pieces such as this one.

What's Tyvek?

I am fascinated by the textures available for fiber arts when an artist paints and then "burns" or heats the Tyvek to make it bubble. Many of my "bubbles" look ridiculous - they don't look artsy and I'm not sure what to do next.

Here's a photo of a Tyvek bead -- and I shall ponder how the artist accomplished this.

Dynamic Colors

One of the most exciting parts of mixed media for me is the dynamic use of color to convey emotion.

Fiber Art

I enjoy any art form that manipulates fiber.
